History of Workshops

Martin has run gundog training workshops and seminars in Britain, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, and throughout America since 1990. A trainer and educator of people for most of his working life, Martin has applies his natural skills and experience teaching people to the vocation he loves, training dogs. His highly communicative style of teaching, and approach to helping others learn is infectious and inspirational as well as enjoyable and entertaining. He has the ability to bring out the best in both dog and handler through a clear program of training individually styled for any type of owner and their dog.

The workshops began when Martin was training officer for hunting dog and wildfowling clubs. His success at helping owners train their dogs was identified by the British Field Sports Society and The Game Conservancy who both honored him with the position of Gundog Training Officer. His ability was recognized also In Europe and he was invited to present workshops by the Austrian and Swiss Retriever Clubs. These workshops are an annual event, the Swiss workshop now being organized by Steve Grutter of Banners Dog Training School.

In 1994 after speaking at a dog trainer's conference in America, Martin was asked to do a workshop/seminar tour of America by Dr Ian Dunbar. At the same time he was also asked by a leading Florida trainer to do a workshop for hunting dogs in that State. This workshop has now become an annual event also with experienced and novice handlers returning yearly, to develop and sharpen their skills.

Always looking for ways to support and help all hunting dog owners, in 1998 Martin began to work with leading American spaniel trainer Ray Cacchio running workshops in New York State. These workshops were for Flushing Dogs but one unique feature was that predominantly the attendees were American Cocker Spaniel owners. Many owners in all workshops have achieved successes in competition however Martin and Ray were very proud when Trish Jackson, who organizes the workshops and has attended every one, made her American Cocker into a Field Trial Champion. The first American Cocker to achieve this award in over 30 years.
