This week I had the great privilege of attending Martin Deeley 's E- Touch Workshop. Martin is the most gifted trainer I have ever seen work a dog or teach a human, and through his wonderful tutelage I got to see what an elegant communication tool the e-collar can be for training dogs. What I learned this week has forever changed my own training.

Of course I can not do Martin's teaching justice here, but I can share that my big concern was understanding how the dog learns what the stim means. Martin clearly answered that question, (and all other questions), short explanations for the students who quickly grasped the concepts, more detailed and slower explanations for the much slower student (three guesses who that was).

For those looking to learn about using an e-collar I can't say enough good things about Martin. I feel comfortable in saying that each of the trainers there had very different training styles and all of us learned how to incorporate the e-collar into our own training, in fact we were all talking about how difficult it would be to justify using other methods when this was so clearly much easier on the dog for understanding what it is those humans are asking him to do. Martin's training was a great boon to me as a trainer and more importantly a great gift to the dogs who will benefit from what I learned at the hands of a master trainer.

Three days after completion of the course Martin, I just had to let you know what a great day I'm having. First this morning I worked my Border Collie, and it was wonderful; he didn't want to quit. Then the big one, just go in from working a neighbors dog, Charley, and it was so cool, you would have thought it was Tia on the end of the lead. I'm rather pleased with myself, of course have much more work to do but I'm getting it. I really can't thank you enough, you truly have an inexhaustible supply of patience. I was quite frustrated with myself and couldn't have managed to keep going without you talking me through it day after day.

Please let Pat know her vocabulary words were very useful and letting the owners see how using their names 15 times in a few sentences felt worked wonders. You two are the absolute best trainers on earth, I'm so lucky to know you, so once more, a great big thanks from me, WooWoo and Charley!
